Biologists’ Books Explain Rising Sea Levels to Young Readers

To explain concerns about sea level rise to young readers, University of Central Florida Biology Professor Linda Walters and Sydney Katz, one of her former students, have written two book called “Rising Tides: A Guide to Sea Level Rise and the Coastal Organisms it Will Affect” and “As the Seas Rise: How Coastal Plants and Animals will be Affected by Sea Level Rise.”

The books talk about UCF research, hurricane storm surges, and the impact of rising tides on things like oyster habitats and marsh plants. The information is shown in dialogue, fun facts, puzzles, links to websites and tips for how readers can help coastal species.

PDFs of these books are available on our Outreach and Education page, and you can find out more about the books by going to the article in UCF Today.
